The National Plan to Reduce Violence against Women and their Children 2010-22 (the National Plan) is a 12-year strategy which aims to bring together Commonwealth, state and territory government efforts, as well as the important work being done by civil society, the business sector and the Australian community more broadly to make a sustained reduction in the levels of violence against women and their children.
The Commonwealth Government wants to hear your ideas for action we can take at a national level to embed what has been achieved so far, fill gaps and strengthen implementation of the National Plan.

House About Us is an exciting pilot project designed by SEWACS. It’s aim is to give women the skills and knowledge to do small maintenance around the house and garden. It gives women the confidence to be self reliant and to seek further skills.
Some of the skills that the women have learned so far include how to:
- patch holes in walls and then paint them
- replace fly screens on windows and doors
- safely remove carpet
- cost effectively dispose and recycle household waste.
The project has also purchased lawn mowers and whipper snippers for women to use at home. This allows the women to maintain their lawns and gardens, giving them a sense of pride in their place.
Healthy Living Project
Build the garden beds out of timber, soil, netting and seedlings supplied by Bega Valley Shire Council. Women were taught about companion planting, seasons, Got to eat the vegetables. Also had to establish and maintain a compost bin for use in the garden beds. Had to organise a roster system for water, maintaining and harvesting the vegetables.
