Eurobodalla community helps to fund a solar system

As part of SHASA’s Solar for Community Facilities Program, with funds from the SHASA/MESA solar bulk buy, a raffle and musical performance from Out of Abingdon, SEWACS now has a solar PV system.

Recently MESA with $8,445 in funds from SHASA, installed a 6.3kw solar system with a 3 phase inverter, an inverter enclosure and preventative maintenance services for up to five years, said Kathryn Maxwell, President, SHASA.

SEWACS had an unsustainable electricity bill of $11,000 per annum.  This was impacting adversely on the ability to provide the support women and children need when escaping domestic violence. The solar system will generate about 6,400 kWh of electricity per annum, with annual savings of about $2,308.

This service provides emergency accommodation to women with or without children who are homeless or at risk of homelessness due to domestic violence. Women may stay at the refuge for up to three months which means that the solar PVC can become an educational opportunity for conversations on the reduction of our carbon footprint for the residents and their children during their stay.

SHASA has helped 11 community facilities to get solar systems installed and is keen to help others. Give us a call on 0467 558645 or email contact.shasa@gmail.com if you would like us to help you get solar and/or batteries.

This year Geri Taylor from Viva Pilates sold artwork to raise money for the Eurobodalla team. Geri made handmade cards and donated 100% of the proceeds to the clients, staff and support workers to have a special Christmas treat. Raising funds for the nest swing

This year SEWACS installed a durable therapeutic nest swing for adults and children to use at the Eurobodalla service, using funds previously donated by groups such as the Moruya CWA, and the Torquay Community House, as well as individuals from the Eurobodalla community.

Local business owner, Geri Taylor, is selling her handwoven artworks and donating the funds to SEWACS Eurobodalla.
